General Dentistry

A dental bridge can replace a missing gap in your mouth. It involves replacing a missing tooth with a false tooth which is bonded to the natural teeth on either side of the gap. It means a gap can be replaced in a relatively short time with a natural solution.

Crowns are designed to protect damaged, weakened or broken teeth. We recommend them when a filling won’t be strong enough, or for teeth that
are broken, have a crack, or the tooth has a root canal filling. A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that’s placed over your tooth. It’s a permanent solution, and once it’s fixed in place, a crown should look, feel and function just like any other tooth. In the past, most crowns were made of metal. In the long term this can cause black lines at the top of the crowns and darkening of the gums.

The vast majority of our patients now opt for modern materials such as Emax (porcelain) or Zirconia, which are incredibly strong and very aesthetic which provide a completely metal free crown. These teeth blend in with natural teeth, and completely revitalise their appearance.

We do also provide gold crowns where clinically necessary and indicated.

With more adult teeth being lost through gum disease rather than tooth decay, regular dental hygiene treatment is essential to keeping your gums and teeth healthy. Patients that see the hygienist keep their teeth for longer and keep them in the best condition. Our hygienists are expertly trained to deal with gum disease of all severities.

Even if you practise excellent home habits, we would recommend seeing the hygienist at least twice a year. We practise what we preach and all our
dentists, hygienists and staff members see them. Regular visits to the hygienist combined with dental check-ups and looking after your teeth and gums at home will greatly improve the appearance of your teeth and your oral health.

Dentures are a trusted and effective way to replace missing teeth. They are removable plastic or metal frameworks that carry single or multiple false teeth. If you choose to replace missing teeth with dentures, they will be custom made to fit the size and shape of your mouth, making them feel and look as natural as possible.

A dental filling is used to fill a hole that is developed in the tooth or other damage such as a chipped tooth. If left untreated, the tooth can lead to toothache, fracture, bad breath, infection and in the worst case scenario permanent loss of a tooth.

With regular examinations, dental professionals can spot these issues and help prevent them. Or they can treat them at the early stages to prevent further more extensive treatment.

At Massetts Road Dental Practice we use a variety of dental filling materials appropriate to each patient. With modern advancements, white fillings are now the most popular because we can bond the filling material to the tooth, this enhances the tooth’s strength and maintains the natural appearance and aesthetics.

At Massetts Road Dental Practice, in most cases we would recommend replacing missing teeth. Missing teeth can cause oral health issues and difficulty eating and chewing.

Furthermore gaps can affect your smile, face structure, speech and self- confidence. We believe with modern advancements none of our patients need to suffer from any of these issues.

By having less teeth, more strain and pressures are placed on the remaining teeth and this can cause them to break or fracture and in some cases can make them loose. Gaps also mean that teeth drift into spaces which can affect the bite and this can lead to jaw issues.

There are various solutions to fill gaps, our most popular solution is dental implants. Other alternatives include bridges and dentures. We would always discuss the solution that is most suited to you.

All of our team understand that visiting the dentist can evoke anxiety and apprehension. If you are nervous, anxious or dental phobic, the team at Massetts Road have the expertise to care and provide the correct treatment for you.

We will always listen to your concerns and provide care in a comfortable environment that is calm and relaxing. We will make a bespoke and personalised plan that is right for you.

Our aim is to ensure you feel confident and happy with your experience.

Root canal treatment can prevent a tooth being removed. With modern techniques and procedures, inflammation or infection is removed the centre of the tooth. The area is cleaned and then filled to prevent further infection.

Root canal treatment is normally required when the tooth is damaged and bacteria has travelled into the blood vessels and nerve of a tooth (pulp). The bacteria can spread inside the tooth and often this can lead to pus and infection at the bottom of the tooth.

Root canal treatment may be needed in the following scenarios:

  • Severe tooth decay
  • A tooth Abscess
  • A cracked tooth
  • A broken crown
  • Swelling under the jaw
  • Persistent and prolonged pain in a tooth
  • Dental trauma

Root canal treatment can fix the above problems. It is very common to crown a tooth after root canal in order to prevent the tooth from breaking any further and by providing and additional seal to prevent bacteria entering the tooth again.

Dental Implants

Dental implants offer a permanent solution to replace teeth that are missing or those beyond repair. They are the number one option to replace missing teeth at Massetts Road Dental Practice.

Dental implants can restore your natural smile and function, restoring your ability to eat, smile and laugh with confidence.

Replacing a missing tooth with an implant involves an initial consultation for suitability.

The procedure involves placing a biocompatible titanium screw into the jaw to replace the root of your tooth. This bonds over a period of a few months to the bone and forms a strong platform to place a permanent implant crown to restore function, health and aesthetics.

Once in place, dental implants require care and attention to the same level as with natural teeth which should consist of good oral hygiene techniques and a routine of daily brushing and cleaning between teeth.

Facial Aesthetics

Facial aesthetics are non-surgical, cosmetic procedures that are better known as anti-wrinkle treatments. Facial aesthetic treatments can give you a more youthful and revitalised appearance, reversing the ageing effects that, over time cause fine lines and sagging skin.

Lines and wrinkles are an inevitable part of the ageing process. As you age, the production of elastin and collagen in your body slows down, which causes wrinkles. These can be particularly noticeable around the eyes, mouth and forehead. Other factors can cause them too, such as sun exposure and smoking.

Massetts Road Dental Practice offers facial aesthetics as a standalone treatment or to complement your dental smile makeover.

Massetts Road Dental Practice provides wrinkle correction treatments to smooth out the lines in your face, refreshing and rejuvenating your facial appearance.

After a consultation, a bespoke plan based on the location and extent of any wrinkles or lines, our clinician will use the finest needles to inject a naturally-occurring protein into the facial muscles.

Frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines that appear as a part of the ageing process diminish or disappear, making you look younger and more vibrant.

The procedure is quick, with little to no discomfort.

The treatment’s effects last up to three to four months, but with each subsequent treatment, the effects tend to last longer achieving great results.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Composite Bonding is a non-invasive procedure to fix chipped, broken or discoloured teeth. Composite bonding can have excellent results that are affordable in order to achieve your desired smile.

It normally involves adding composite resin material to your existing teeth without removing any tooth to enhance your smile. The changes in outcome can be life changing.

In a smile makeover we are using various cosmetic treatments to create your unique smile that you desire.

Each smile makeover is different and is bespoke to the individual, it quite commonly involves some or all the treatments such as teeth whitening, Invisalign® or aligning teeth and composite bonding. We can also use aesthetic dental veneers and crowns to make your perfect smile.

We will always ensure a smile makeover will provide an aesthetic and functional result.

Veneers are a cosmetic treatment. They cover only the front surface of the tooth and will mimic the size, shape and colour of your teeth, creating a very natural look.

Veneers are a thin moulding, custom-made from porcelain, which is bonded to the front surface of a tooth. Veneers are a quick and effective solution to stained, chipped, misshapen or crooked teeth. They are strong and stain resistant and offer good durability. Visually you can get some of the most aesthetic appearances desired.

White fillings are the number one choice at Massetts Road in order to restore broken and chipped teeth. White fillings bond to teeth and provide a natural appearance.

They are preferred to black amalgam fillings, partly due to the modern advancement of the materials which provide great function due to their bonding abilities to tooth. In addition, they look natural and aesthetic.

Teeth whitening is an extremely popular way to restore a smile, giving your self-esteem that extra boost.

It could simply be to improve your confidence or perhaps to look your best for a special occasion, such as a birthday, a wedding, or an anniversary.

Over time teeth can become darker because of lifestyle choices such as drinking tea and coffee or smoking and eating certain foods.

At Massetts Road Dental Practice we use the most popular whitening product in the UK, Boutique® whitening. Teeth whitening can create beautiful smiles and is regarded as one of the leading treatments available.

After an initial consultation where we take impressions of your teeth, comfortable custom dental trays are then manufactured and we provide a demonstration of the technique you are required to perform home whitening for up to 3-4 weeks with prescribed whitening gels. We then review the process and discuss how to maintain or further enhance your smile.
